Volunteer Awards

We coach over 200 juniors each week so it is essential that we have a large pool of regular volunteers prepared to give up their time to coach or assist at the sessions. Without the support of these volunteers the junior section would cease to exist, so it is important that we recognise and reward individuals who give their time to the club. So back in Spring 2010 we decided to give a Junior Ilkley Harrier ' Volunteer Award' where the recipient is given £15 worth of vouchers from Dobson & Robinson and a place on our website volunteer 'Roll of Honour'. Up to 12 awards are presented each year at the junior presentation evening. Although there are no great financial rewards given to our volunteers we hope that the recognition that they receive within JIH goes some way to say thankyou for all the time and commitment given to the juniors.

Junior Leaders

In addition we value the input of our older juniors who have gone through the JIH system themselves and are familiar with the activities that the club does and the format of the coaching sessions run. At the end of 2010 we decided to give all our junior helpers the opportunity to gain 'real' qualifications that would not only be useful on a CV but also provide the general leadership skills for everyday life.

New for 2016: Year 9's can start helping at sessions and must commit to a whole term of volunteering. This can be as a part of their voluntary element of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme or just because they would like to help. If you do not volunteer in Year 9 you can still do the award scheme in Year 10.

Junior Leadership Awards

Juniors start volunteering in the September when they are Year 10 by generally helping out at sessions. Their leadership course includes 15 months of volunteering with every junior leader doing a First Aid course, an England Athletics 'Leading Athletics' course, volunteer at a weekly session and assist at the events that we organise. We fully fund the junior leaders programme and once qualified a good number of them continue to volunteer with us. We support further development and will act as referees for job or university applications.

*Saturday 17th September: Assist in the organisation of the Ilkley Aquathlon, Ilkley Lido
*Sunday 20th November: Assist in the organisation of the Santa Fundraising Run, Ilkley Moor
Monday 12th December 2016: Mini Games evening led by Shirley (IGS sportshall, 5.45 to 8.15)
Monday 9th January 2017: First Aid course led by Janet Wilson (Clarke Foley Centre, 6.30pm to 9.30)
Sunday 12th February: England Athletics 'Leading Athletics' course (UAK, 1pm - 4pm)
*Sunday 26th February: Assist in the organisation of the junior fell races, Ilkley Moor (morning)
*Saturday 18th March: Assist in the organisation of the Primary School XC league relays, Nell Bank (morning)
*June: Assist in the organisation of the Ilkley junior Trail races, Ilkley Lido
*July: Assist with the IGS Transition day, 9am to 3pm (by invitation)
* Assist in the organisation of the Sprint fell relays, Ilkley Moor
* Assist in the organisation of the Ilkley Aquathlon, Ilkley Lido
Course complete December 2017
March 2018: Presentation of certificates at the JIH annual awards evening
