Junior Ilkley Harriers, established 2003

At JIH we offer a full programme of running related activities to individuals up until the end of Year 13. U16 must be members of JIH (annual membership of £5) and over 16's must be members of Ilkley Harriers (annual membership £15). In either case a newcomer may attend 2 sessions before joining.

Any individual wishing to attend junior led training sessions (see below) must be a FIRST CLAIM member of Junior Ilkley Harriers/Ilkley Harriers. Family membership of Ilkley Harriers does NOT include children who are U16.

There is a general programme which caters for everyone - all abilities and newcomers to athletics. In addition there is a more specific programme only available to those juniors who are more serious about their athletics and wish to compete for Ilkley. Post 16's have the freedom to 'mix & match' senior/junior training sessions but the appropriate parental forms must be provided.

The majority of our sessions have waiting lists so please do not just turn up on the night to any session => contact shirley beforehand to check that its OK first (shirley@ilkleyharriers.org.uk).

Monday: two 75 minute indoor Sportshall Athletics sessions in the IGS sports hall. 5.30-6.45pm for Years 2 to 5 and 7pm-8.15 for Years 6 to 8. Juniors work on the basics of all running, jumping and throwing activities leading towards a UKA Academy Decathlon award. The Summer term is outdoor Track & Field Athletics on either the IGS or Ghyll Royd School Fields. Juniors enrol for the whole course (£4.50 per session). Lead coaches: Shirley Wood and Katrina Kennedy.

Monday: 60 minute ‘Speed Endurance' running session suitable for XC, Fell and distance T&F athletes of all abilities outside on the IGS playing fields, 5.30-6.30pm for Years 3 to 5. £25 per term and we guarantee a minimum of 30 weeks of training over the year. Lead coaches: Ros Blackburn/Sally Westlake.

Monday: Junior Circuits in the IGS gym (6pm-7pm) for Year 10 and older. £2 on the night. Lead coach: Sue Williamson.

Wednesday: 75 minute outdoor athletics/fitness/sportshall session for Years 9 to 13, Ghyll Royd playing field/sportshall, 5.45 to 7pm. A general session for older juniors who would like to continue doing all forms of athletics. Sessions will start outside and once too dark will move into the sports hall. Juniors enrol for the whole course (£4.50 per session). Lead coaches: Shirley Wood and Parag Jane Mumby..

SPECIFIC PROGRAMME - Years 7-13 only

The 2017/2018 Specific programme is only available to those juniors who compete for Ilkley. We expect a high level of commitment, motivation, self discipline and behaviour. All juniors must have the maturity to work hard in smaller coaching groups with specific coaches. After a few weeks all these sessions became CLOSED and unless there are special circumstances no-one new will be allowed to start until September 2018. Monday: 6pm to 7pm, Fell training. Autumn & Spring terms speed endurance training on the IGS playing fields. In the summer term the group moves on to Ilkley Moor for hill training. £25 per term and we guarantee a minimum of 30 weeks of training over the year. Lead coach: Elizabeth Raven.

Tuesday: 6.45pm to 8pm in the autumn & spring terms: Block of Jumps, Throws, hurdling drills and a block of High Jump and general conditioning (Ghyll Royd sports hall). In the summer term it is unlikely that we will be able to fit in High Jump training so just Jumps, Throws, Hurdling & Sprinting on either Ghyll Royd/IGS playing fields. Juniors enrol for the whole course (£4.50 per session). Lead coaches: Sally Judkowski and Shirley Wood.

Wednesday: 75 minute outdoor ‘Speed Training' session on the IGS playing fields, 6.15pm-7.30pm. Session suitable for XC, Fell and middle distance T&F athletes. £25 per term and we guarantee a minimum of 30 weeks of training over the year. Lead coaches: Kate Lofthouse and Christine Reilly.
